The Science & History Behind the Salt

Salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, originated in the salt mines and caves in Poland in the 1800s. The miners, who chiseled, ground and hammered the salt and naturally inhaled the particles, had fewer respiratory illnesses and enjoyed robust health in spite of the harsh working conditions. The practice of visiting salt caves for therapeutic reasons was common in Eastern Europe in the 12th century and only recently migrated to western culture. Salt therapy sessions are conducted in our salt room, where walls and floors are lined with salt, and the air is infused with salt particles. Salt therapy involves breathing in dry, micronized salt particles in a controlled environment.
